STEFAN SAGMEISTER - KEYNOTE

Stefan Sagmeister formed the New York based Sagmeister Inc. in 1993 and has since designed for clients as diverse as the Rolling Stones, HBO, and the Guggenheim Museum. Having been nominated eight times he finally won two Grammies for the Talking Heads and Brian Eno & David Byrne package designs. He also earned practically every important international design award.

In 2008 a comprehensive book titled "Things I have Learned in my Life so far" was published by Abrams. Solo shows on Sagmeister Inc's work have been mounted in Zurich, Vienna, New York, Berlin, Tokyo, Osaka, Prague, Cologne,Seoul and Miami. He teaches in the graduate department of the School of Visual Art in New York and lectures extensively on all continents.

A native of Austria, he received his MFA from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and, as a Fulbright Scholar, a master's degree from Pratt Institute in New York.




JAMIE CALIRI

Jamie Caliri is a director originally from Buffalo, New York who now lives with his family in southern California.

After a youth spent exploring interests in performance and photography, Caliri turned his attention to film and animation at California Institute of the Arts. It was at CalArts that Jamie's passion for the art and craft of storytelling took form as well as his penchant for technical and creative innovation.

From there, Caliri directed music videos for a variety of artists including: Eels, Marcy Playground, Morphine, Soul Coughing and many others. His work on Morphine's “Early to bed” video garnered Caliri a Grammy nomination for best short form music video.

It was his much lauded work on the end title sequence of “Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events” that brought Caliri and his singular vision to the forefront. Soon after, Caliri directed two Annie award-winning commercials for United Airlines, "Dragon" and "Heart".

Most recently, Caliri won an Emmy for directing the main titles of Showtime's "United States of Tara", as well as taking an entrepreneurial turn in releasing the industry leading stop motion animation software program, Dragon Stop Motion.




ALEX HUZZEY

Alex started out at advertising agency DDB London working on brands such as Volkswagen and Budweiser, before going digital at Agency Republic, where he worked on the BBC across BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.

Alex came to Red Bee to strengthen the strategic side of their digital offering, and works across Red Bee Media's creative output, from on-screen brand identity and trails to online and multi-platform campaigns for a range of broadcasters including the BBC and UKTV.




CHARLEY HOLLAND

Charley Holland has worked his way around the TV traps for the last 25 years; for a large chunk of that time, as some kind of creative director at various TV channels and agencies. Whilst all that was going on he developed a series of promo producer training seminars, which he has delivered at Promax/BDA conferences and TV channels around the world.




NIGEL WALLEY

Nigel is Managing Director of Decipher the media strategy consultancy, and Chairman of the Decipher Group of companies, which includes iBurbia Studios, the interactive media research lab. Founded in 1998, Decipher works with large advertisers and with media companies to understand the commercial implications of new consumer technologies

Founded in 1998, Decipher has worked on interactive media and technology projects for a wide range of clients including Virgin Media, ITV, the BBC, Sky, UKTV, Channel 4, Sony, Viacom, and the UK Govt. Since 2002 Decipher has pioneered research into the impact of PVRs and VOD on the TV advertising markets. Decipher are currently working with ITV on defining future formats for television advertising.




STEVEN HORE

Steven joined BDA in their first year of trading as a junior creative. He went on to stay with the company for seven years, collecting dozens of Promax awards during this time at the company.

In 2006, he left to spread his wings as a freelance writer, director and editor. During this time he created long-form documentaries, promo campaigns and cinema trailers for leading UK broadcasters.

In 2008, Steven returned to BDA as Creative Director of Promotions where he heads up the 15 strong creative team and an output of around fifty promos a month.




MAURIZIO VITALE

Maurizio joined the Discovery Networks Europe team in October 2005. He is responsible for directing all elements of the brand expression, and developing locally compelling channel propositions throughout EMEA working closely with the advertising sales and programming functions. Maurizio is also a member of the senior management team in Europe.

Prior to joining Discovery, Vitale was Vice President Creative Director at MTV Networks Europe, where he oversaw creative for all of the network's Pan-European programming, including the MTV Europe Music Awards, and managed the creative teams in Spain, Portugal, France and Italy. Vitale joined MTV Networks Europe in 1995 holding several roles within graphic design and art direction before moving specifically into on-air creative. He began his career in broadcast as a freelance designer in Italy and the UK.

Vitale has a Master of Arts in Communications and Humanities from the Royal College of Art, London, and a B.S in graphic design and advertising from Nuova Accademia of Belle Arti.




VITOR DUARTE

Vitor Duarte is from Lisbon and began his career in 1985 in an animation studio, he then worked in set design and theatre before working as an Art Director for television and advertising.

In 1992 he joined SIC television, working in the graphics department where he developed visuals for entertainment and news programming. In 2001 he is called to run the department responsible for designing and implementing the graphics package and on air identities for the networks various cable channels; SIC Radical, SIC Mulher, SIC Comédia, SIC KIDs, etc...

In 2009 with the creation of BLOOM GRAPHICS, the various departments related to this area where unified under one management enabling them to develop projects In the areas of motion, web, corporate and set design for other companies exemplified by Benfica TV and Economico Tv. Bloom Graphics also works on audio and video post production for programs, branded entertainment and advertising.




PETER BISHOP

Pete Bishop co-created & directed the television series Captain Star and was series director of Bromwell High (winner Best of British Animation Award for Comedy & a Gemini in Canada for best animated series, 2006).

He has directed commercials for Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Citibank, Duracell, Sprint and created award winning idents & branding for MTV America & Hallmark. His Car Horn Orchestra live action ident for Channel [V], India, won the Promax World gold.

Pete directed and co-created the HOW TO DESTROY THE WORLD shorts for the Discovery Channel which have won awards in 2009 at Annecy, Krok, Promax NY and HAFF.

Most recently Pete was the Director of animation at National Theatre on ‘England People Very Nice’. Pete’s Animation and set design has been nominated for an Olivier Award in 2010




DOM MINNS

Dom is Plug-In Media's Creative Director. Following an apprenticeship in comic strip, Dom moved into television, where he worked as an assistant director and an art director. He started working in digital media nine years ago and has specialised in conceptualising, designing and animating interactive projects with a broadcast tie-in. Dom has designed games and interactive experiences for the BBC, Sony Eye-Toy, Disney and Turner to name but a few. Dom designed the games for CBBC's Smile, featuring Nev the Bear and directed Plug-in's BAFTA winning, Big and Small Online.




JULIET TZABAR

Juliet is Production Director at Plug-in Media. Following a career as a television art director, Juliet has now worked in digital media for over 10 years and specialises in delivering interactive projects with a broadcast tie-in. She has produced games and websites for many well-loved brands such as Bob the Builder, Jackanory and Blue Peter. Juliet produced the original website and games for CBBC's Smile which won a Children's BAFTA in 2005 and was also the interactive executive producer on Plug-in's BAFTA winning, Big and Small Online.




BOB VAN DER PUT

Bob's tour of duty started at John the Mol productions where he directed big entertainment shows like Big Brother, All you need is Love and Love Letters. After 10 years of directing non stop Bob went to the Central Creative Unit of Endemol International where he became Head of Promotion.

5 years ago, Bob was given a monster challenge by SBS Broadcasting; to execute the total rebranding of all SBS channels (SBS6, NET5 and Veronica). In the process Bob made his claim to fame by winning the Dutch Promo Awards (2009) and a Promax Award (2009).

Presently Bob is the Creative Director at SBS where he manages the Promo, Graphics and Creative departments.




HERMAN KONINGS

Herman Konings is PhD in theoretical (and consumer) psychology and founder of Belgian trend and future research agency Pocket Marketing/nXt. As a renowned Belgian trendwatcher Konings is sought after as a speaker by companies and organizations throughout Europe. In addition, his insights have been featured in Belgian and Dutch media since 1999.




ROBERT BUGANZA

Robert Buganza is Creative Director for SKYTG24, SKY Italia’s all-news channel based in Rome. The channel distinguishes itself for unbiased reporting in a market where all news media is perceived to be a political instrument. TG24 has won the national award for best television service (Oscar della TV) two out of the past three years, as well as the Hotbird award in 2009. Robert heads a team of 20 graphic artists that service both TG24 and Meteo24, SKY’s 24-hour weather channel.




MARILYN KASS

Marilyn Kass is Principal and Managing Director at Tooth+Nail, a creative agency known for award-winning advertising, branding, and kick-ass workshops.

If it involves entertainment, Marilyn has been there and done it well. Her clients? Take a look at a channel lineup. That’s pretty much it.

Executive Producer, speaker, and former performance artist, Marilyn says she produces campaigns, workshops and happiness.

Her “Momo Blog,” chronicling her battle with cancer, attracted thousands of readers and the only thing she eats up faster than a delicious vegetarian meal is adventure.



LINDA BUTTON

Button is Principal and Creative Director at Tooth+Nail, a creative agency that helps networks find and express their distinct personality.

LB speaks the language of entertainment. She works closely with top networks, including CNN, Food Network, and A&E International, to create fresh dialogue with their audiences. Her ad campaigns snagged ratings and awards for History, A&E, NBC, Biography Channel, Sesame Street, Discovery, and others.

Button has headlined creativity and writing workshops for HBO, TBS, CNN, Weather Channel, the CBC, Tribune, A&E International, and CTAM. She has been a guest speaker at Harvard, Emerson University, PBS, and Promax. Fast Company featured Button and her brainstorming process.

Thanks to a stint in Miami, she nurses an addiction to cafe con leché.




OMAR HONIGH

Omar is a Dutch national and studied at the Hogeschool voorde Kunsten in Utrecht, The Netherlands, and BA Hons French at Birkbeck College London, UK. He moved to London in 1993 and worked as an Account Manager at the BBC for 7 years before moving on to head up various accounts for Lambie-Nairn. He joined Kemistry in 2006 and has been instrumental in managing the agency’s long term relationships with clients whilst establishing a host of new relationships. Omar has a deep understanding of branding and is passionate about the industry he works in. Apart from his professional career, Omar devotes considerable time to Royal Somló Vineyards, his boutique winery producing hand-crafted wines in Western Hungary.




BRON DEAN

Bron thinks 17 years is a long time to spend tinkering with pretty pictures into the wee hours, while family and friends ponder whether her job entails anything more that watching television. So why has she done it?

Passion.

Passion for broadcast, passion for design and passion for creativity. It is this passion that has driven her to markets in the UK, Australia and South Africa. As Creative Director at Orijin South Africa she is devoted to both her team of multi-talented creative and production masterminds and the company’s award-winning work!




GRAEME NEWELL

Graeme Newell is a television marketing expert who shows cable, newspaper and broadcast teams how to generate revenue through relationship branding. After years as both a frontline producer and manager, Newell started 602 Communications in 1997. He has done consulting and training for most of the major cable, newspaper and broadcast groups including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox, MSNBC, CNBC Gannett, HGTV, ESPN, Food Network, Hearst, Tribune, CBS News and more.





RICHARD HOLMAN

Following an unsuccessful stint as a bingo caller, Richard fell into a job making trailers for the BBC. He spent 4 years there, working as a creative on brand communications and trying to bump into John Peel in the canteen.

He left in 2001 to found devilfish: a boutique agency supplying brand building creative to the broadcast sector. Devilfish is now one of the most successful agencies of its kind (with over 60 Promax awards) and works with a wide roster of clients at home and abroad.

Richard believes in simplicity, reward, sunshine and mountains.





LIZ DUNNING

Liz’s background is in marketing and planning. She began her career in advertising at GGK and has held senior positions at Landor, Michael Peters and Lambie-Nairn. A co-founder of Dunning Penney Jones, she is a regular speaker at TV conferences and is currently co-chair of Promax/BDA Europe. Liz holds a BSc in Marketing, an MSc in Information Systems Technology and has completed the AMP at Harvard Business School. A dual US/UK citizen, she has lived and worked on both sides of the Atlantic.





NIKKI BENTLEY

Nikki’s career has spanned continents and multiple broadcast disciplines. She started out in the South African film and television industry production managing over a hundred TV commercials before moving into content production and producing live entertainment for pan-African digital satellite service DSTV. With over 150 hours of live broadcast under her belt and numerous long-form sponsored programmes distributed globally, Nikki moved to the UK. She joined creative agency BDA where she is now Group Head of Marketing & Client Services, leading the agency’s global marketing activity and building their international client base. Nikki is a Director of Promax UK and is committed to advancing creativity within the media industry.
